Moving from Strength to Strength in Work, Life & Happiness

12 PM EST, 11 AM CST, 10 AM MST, 9 AM PST

Our skills and interests naturally change as we age—a fact that can be difficult and frightening for many “strivers.” How can we prepare for the changes that come later in life, and how can we structure our lives in a way that uncovers new strengths and leads to lasting happiness? Blending the latest in behavioral social science research, ancient wisdom, and historical analysis, Arthur Brooks will reveal how effectiveness and well-being at all stages of life come not from holding on to past achievements, but from cultivating new habits and a different understanding of success and fulfillment.

    The Speaker:

Arthur Brooks is a professor at the Harvard Kennedy School and the Harvard Business School, where he teaches courses on leadership and happiness. He is also the host of the weekly podcast “Office Hours with Arthur Brooks,” and a columnist at The Atlantic, where he writes the popular weekly “How to Build a Life” column.

Brooks is the author of 15 books, including the #1 New York Times bestsellers, Build the Life You Want, co-authored with Oprah Winfrey, and From Strength to Strength: Finding Success, Happiness, and Deep Purpose in the Second Half of Life. His next book, The Meaning of Your Life: Finding Purpose in an Age of Emptiness, will be released on March 31, 2026.

Brooks is one of the world’s leading experts on the science of human happiness, appearing in the media and traveling the world to teach people in private companies, universities, public agencies, and faith communities how they can live happier lives and bring greater well-being to others.

Retiring Well - Creating a Personal Action Plan

12:30 PM EDT, 11:30 AM CDT, 10:30 AM MDT, 9:30 AM PDT

Retiring, as a major life transition, can be both thrilling and challenging in unexpected ways. Beyond financial security and physical health, people need preparation for the psychological, social-relational, and life restructuring upheavals they will face. The secrets to facing them successfully lie in the 215 interviews conducted and analyzed by Teresa Amabile and her expert research team over a decade. The 120 corporate professionals interviewed, including the 14 followed for years throughout their retirement transitions, reveal what it takes to have a retirement that benefits both the person and the organization from which they retire. In speeches, workshops, and interactive discussions, Teresa engages audiences in key takeaways:

    • What organizations get right about retirement – and what they get wrong
    • The four tasks of the retiring process, the work they require, and how to do the work
    • Vivid case studies of people who experienced smooth, quick transitions into satisfying retirement lives – and people who had long, difficult journeys
    • How to use “The Four A’s” – alignment, awareness, agency, and adaptability – to meet the challenges and reap the rewards of this and other life transitions

    The Speaker:

During her decades of researching human behavior, Teresa Amabile has published five books and over 150 articles, case studies, and chapters in the fields of psychology and organizational behavior. She was instrumental in establishing the social psychology of creativity – the science of how social environments, such as work environments, can influence creative behavior, primarily by influencing motivation. Her research on creativity appears in her books The Social Psychology of Creativity, Creativity in Context, and Growing Up Creative, as well as numerous articles for scholars and practitioners.

Extending her creativity research, Teresa studied how everyday life inside organizations can influence people and their creativity, productivity, commitment, and collegiality, by affecting inner work life – the confluence of motivation, emotions, and perceptions. The findings of that research, based on nearly 12,000 daily work diaries from 238 people, appear in her book, The Progress Principle: Using Small Wins to Ignite Joy, Engagement, and Creativity at Work. Leaders around the world have embraced the lessons of that book.

Teresa’s most recent book, Retiring: Creating a Life That Works for You, presents insights from a decade of collaborative research on the psychological, social, and life restructuring challenges of retiring. That research analyzed over 200 interviews from 120 professionals and retirees in U.S. corporations and followed 14 of those people throughout the years of their entire retirement transitions. The findings carry lessons not only for individuals and their families but also for organizational leaders.

Teresa is the Edsel Bryant Ford Professor of Business Administration, Emerita, at Harvard Business School and a Fellow of the Academy of Management, the Association for Psychological Science, and the American Psychological Association. She has inspired audiences in a variety of settings, including Pixar, Genentech, TEDx Atlanta, Apple, Pfizer, and The World Economic Forum in Davos, and has served on a number of boards. She has received a variety of awards, including the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Academy of Management’s Organizational Behavior Division, the Distinguished Scholar Award from the Society for Personality and Social Psychology, the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Israel Organizational Behavior Conference, and an honorary doctorate from BI Norwegian Business School. In 2024, she was named to the Thinkers50 Hall of Fame.

Teresa holds a B.S. in chemistry from Canisius University and a Ph.D. in psychology from Stanford University.

    Discovering Your Purpose in Retirement

3:00 PM EDT, 2:00 PM CDT, 1:00 PM MDT, 12:00 PM PDT

Retirement isn’t the end of your story; it’s the beginning of your most meaningful chapter.

What happens when the titles, roles, and routines that have defined us for decades fade away? For many pre-retirees and retirees, this transition sparks a powerful question: What is my purpose now?

Join Jordan Grumet—physician, hospice doctor, and acclaimed author of The Purpose Code for an inspiring conversation about finding meaning beyond career. Through heartfelt stories and actionable strategies, Jordan will help you:

    • Reconnect with your core values and passions. Redefining success for life after work. Create a legacy that reflects who you truly are

Whether you’re faculty, staff, or a lifelong learner, this session will empower you to embrace retirement as an opportunity to live with intention, joy, and impact.

    The Speaker:

Jordan Grumet, born in Evanston, Illinois in 1973, found the spark to become a doctor after a deeply personal event reshaped his life's trajectory. The unexpected loss of his father, an oncologist, ignited a passion within him to practice medicine and instilled a unique vantage point that later melded seamlessly with his financial expertise. This convergence of roles has spurred him to explore profound notions like wealth, abundance, and financial independence with a thoughtful and critical lens.

Completing his studies at the University of Michigan, Jordan earned his medical degree from Northwestern University before embarking on a journey in Internal Medicine in Northbrook, Illinois. Presently, he serves as an associate medical director at Unity Hospice.

With a profound understanding of both medicine and finance, Jordan unveiled his thoughts through blogging, specifically focusing on financial independence and wellness. This passion culminated in the launch of the Earn & Invest podcast in 2018. His dedication bore fruit in 2019 when he was honored with the Plutus Award for Best New Personal Finance Podcast, followed by consecutive nominations for Best Personal Finance Podcast of the year in 2020 and 2021.

In August 2022, Jordan's literary pursuit took shape as his book, Taking Stock: A Hospice Doctor’s Advice on Financial Independence, Building Wealth, and Living a Regret-Free Life was published by Ulysses Press. His second book, The Purpose Code, will be published January 2025 by Harriman House Press. Jordan's journey intertwines medical insight and financial wisdom, resonating deeply with those seeking a balanced, meaningful life.
