Sunday, October 7, 11:00 a.m.

We’ll leave the Conference Center by tour bus, driving through the Emory campus and beautiful Druid Hills neighborhood to fabled Ponce de Leon Avenue and on to Mary Mac’s Tea Room, which has set the standard for Southern cooking in Atlanta for the last 70 years. Enjoy an all-you-can-eat buffet lunch of native specialties from fried chicken and vegetables to corn muffins and peach cobbler.

After lunch, we’ll head down Peachtree Street to Midtown Atlanta and see some of its iconic sights before heading east on “Sweet” Auburn Avenue to the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Site, where you’ll have time to explore the museum at Freedom Hall, the tomb of Martin Luther King Jr. and Coretta Scott King, Ebenezer Baptist Church (pictured), and other highlights.

From there, we’ll drive to the Carter Center, where we’ll be greeted and briefed by Steve Hochman, director of research and assistant to former President Jimmy Carter. Dr. Hochman will give us an introduction to the Carter Museum, which you’ll be able to tour individually.

Throughout our drive around the city, tour guides will provide commentary on local sites and answer your questions.

We’ll arrive back at the Emory Conference Center at 4:00 p.m. in plenty of time for the evening’s reception and gala dinner.
