Transform life for higher education retirees as AROHE's Executive Director

AROHE is seeking a positive and enthusiastic half-time executive director, to begin December 1, 2024. The executive director works remotely from her/his own office with some travel required for in-person conferences and other events.

This position will have a two-year contract with a potential option to renew. The salary for this 50%-time position is set at a minimum of $40,000, depending on qualifications and experience.

AROHE was founded in 2002 as a nonprofit association that supports all phases of faculty/staff retirement through a dynamic member network that links retired faculty and staff retirement associations, emeriti colleges, college retiree centers, and campus offices such as human resources, academic affairs, alumni, and development that engage retirees.

AROHE provides resources and connections to increase retirees' value to their colleges/universities, communities, and professions in the areas of philanthropy, advocacy on behalf of the institution, volunteerism, and institutional knowledge and commitment. Read more about AROHE.

Preferred Qualifications
and Experience

    • Experience working with or directing a college or university retirement organization (RO).
    • Bachelor's degree.
    • Experience working with a volunteer board of directors or an advisory board.
    • Excellent written, verbal, and visual communication skills.
    • Experience in public relations, marketing, and fundraising.
    • Ability to work independently and take initiative.
    • Patience and empathy while interacting with board members, association members, and the public.
    • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
    • Ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects.
    • Experience planning or facilitating virtual meetings, summits, conferences, or other events.
    • Proficiency with computer software, including Microsoft office applications (especially Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher), Dropbox, and Zoom.
    • Experience maintaining a database and website.
    • Ability to organize and archive electronic records.

AROHE Executive Director Duties and Responsibilities

The executive director manages AROHE’s operations on behalf of, and with approval of, the AROHE board of directors, working closely with board members to implement their directives/vision and provide information and resources to AROHE members.

Board and Committee Support

  • Work closely with the board of directors to assess and address issues affecting AROHE.
  • Assist with fundraising efforts.
  • Provide support for board meetings, including coordinating and attending monthly virtual meetings, a biennial board orientation and a biennial board retreat (virtual or in-person).
  • Serve as an active member of the executive, membership, communications, and research/education committees, as well as other ad hoc committees as needed.
  • Assist committee chairs in recruiting and overseeing volunteers.
Communications/Outreach
  • Serve as the public face for the organization, working to increase AROHE’s visibility among institutions of higher education.
  • Compose and/or edit announcements, newsletter articles, AROHE Briefs, and other documents.
  • Send bulk e-announcements to database contacts as needed.
  • Update web pages as needed.
  • Complete layout for six issues of AROHE Matters e-newsletter.
Event Management
  • Coordinate or facilitate member webinars.
  • Assist with planning and facilitating annual member summit or conference
    (in-person or virtual).
Administrative
  • Respond to email and voicemail messages from board of directors, AROHE members and potential AROHE members.
  • Manage the member database, updating records as needed.
  • Manage active and archived electronic files.
  • Oversee annual membership renewal process.
  • Submit monthly accomplishment summaries and annual reports.
